About Experience
Jeremiah Ingalls' Experience is a sacred work for STB voices, sung in English. The music opens with a forthright statement of the main melodic idea, soon joined by the other voices in a largely homophonic texture. The composer builds his piece on a memorable, driving tune, reflecting the spiritual journey of the text. The lyrics describe a profound personal conversion, from a state of sin and fear to the liberating power of divine grace. The singer recounts a vision of heaven and hell, followed by a longing to find Jesus and be cleansed from sin. The music conveys a sense of urgency and conviction, mirroring the text's emotional arc from despair to the hope of salvation.
