Exaudi me by Ludovico da Viadana — Lyrics

mm In finem, pro iis qui commutabuntur. David. Salvum me fac, Deus, quoniam intraverunt aquae usque ad animam meam. Veni in altitudinem maris, et tempestas demersit me. Quoniam propter te sustinui opprobrium; operuit confusio faciem meam. Extraneus factus sum fratribus meis, et peregrinus filiis matris meae. About Exaudi me

Ludovico da Viadana was a leading figure in the transition from Renaissance to Baroque sacred music. His motets often explore expressive text settings, and this work for two voices, SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), is no exception. The Latin text, drawn from Psalm 69, is a plea for divine intervention in times of great distress. The 'Salvum me fac' expresses deep anguish and a cry for help, making it a powerful choice for a composer seeking to convey intense emotion through music. The straightforward voicing allows the text and its emotional weight to be the primary focus.
