Nso Nso Nso (Missa Inye Otito) by Nwatu, G. C — Lyrics
About Nso Nso Nso (Missa Inye Otito)
"Nso Nso Nso" is a vibrant Igbo setting of the Sanctus, drawn from G. C. Nwatu's *Missa Inye Otito* (Mass of Giving Praise). The piece opens with a striking a cappella introduction, where the voices layer the word "Nsọ" (Holy) in a reverent, staggered entry before the organ joins and the full choir proclaims the Lord God of hosts.
What makes this setting particularly special is its lively approach to the Hosanna. Rather than a simple translation, the lyrics expand into a joyful call to action: "Etu si tie ya n'igwe, tie ya n'ụwa" (As it is shouted in heaven, let it be shouted on earth). It paints a picture of the angels rejoicing and invites the congregation to raise their voices just as loudly.
For a choir, this Sanctus brings a wonderful surge of energy to the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The rhythmic drive of the "Hosanna n'elu kachasị elu" and the bright, declarative lines of the Benedictus ("Ọ dị ngọzi bụ Onye bịara...") make it an uplifting and memorable part of the Mass.
