About Ergo ne conticuit

Johannes Lupi was a composer of the Franco-Flemish school. This sacred motet, Ergo ne conticuit, is set for four-part choir (STTB) and is sung in Latin. The text, by Erasmus of Rotterdam, laments the death of the musician Okeghem, whom it praises as a golden voice and a phoenix of Apollo's art. It questions why death has silenced such a noble voice that once resonated through sacred halls and moved hearts, and chastises death for violating the divine art of music.
