EMMANUEL by Samuel Danison — Lyrics
About EMMANUEL
When the season of Advent arrives, the choir loft shifts its focus to songs of longing and anticipation. "Emmanuel" captures that exact mood, serving beautifully as an entrance hymn during these weeks of preparation. The refrain is a simple, earnest plea—"O come, we are waiting"—that immediately grounds the congregation in the spirit of the season, calling on God to dwell among us.
The verses draw deeply from the prophetic books, especially Isaiah, painting vivid pictures of the promised Messiah. Singers move through the familiar, comforting imagery of a great light piercing the darkness, the shoot springing from the stump of Jesse, and the peaceful kingdom where the wolf lies down with the lamb. Each stanza builds on the titles and promises of Christ, from the "Wonderful Counsellor" to the "Prince of Peace."
Musically, the steady, marching rhythm of the verses gives way to the gentle urgency of the refrain. It is a piece that feels both solemn and deeply hopeful, making it a perfect choice to lead the procession to the altar as the church waits for the joy of Christmas.
