Egressus Iesus by Melchior Vulpius — Lyrics

About Egressus Iesus

Melchior Vulpius's motet Egressus Iesus is written for SSTTBB choir. The six-part texture offers rich harmonic possibilities, with clear divisions for the upper and lower voices providing opportunities for antiphonal effects. The Latin text, taken from the Gospel of Mark, recounts the healing of the deaf man with a speech impediment. Vulpius sets the narrative with a directness that reflects the miraculous event, building in intensity as the man is healed and his speech is loosed. The music vividly portrays the astonishment of the witnesses at this divine intervention, creating a powerful and moving sacred work.
