About Ego dixi Domine miserere

The text of this sacred motet is a prayer for mercy and healing, drawn from the Psalms. The singer begs God for compassion, acknowledging sin and seeking spiritual restoration. "I said, Lord, have mercy upon me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee." The plea continues with a call for God to turn towards his servants and to show his mercy, as we have hoped in him. Giovanni Battista Riccio sets this poignant Latin text for two voices (AA). The intimate voicing is well suited to the confessional nature of the words, creating a devotional atmosphere for prayer and reflection.
