About Ecce panis angelorum
Oliver Hayes's Ecce panis angelorum is a sacred motet for unison voices. The Latin text draws on eucharistic themes, referring to Jesus as the bread of angels and the good shepherd. It expands on the scriptural imagery of manna, the Passover lamb, and Isaac's sacrifice, all prefiguring the Eucharist. The prayer then addresses Jesus directly, asking him to nourish and protect the faithful, and to make them fellow-heirs and companions of the saints in the land of the living. This setting would suit services or devotional occasions.
