About Ecce panis angelorum
Benjamin Hamma’s setting of the Latin text Ecce panis angelorum is a sacred anthem for SATB choir. The text, drawn from medieval liturgical sources, contemplates the Eucharist as the Bread of Angels, a spiritual nourishment for travellers on life’s journey, contrasting with the metaphorical dogs who would not receive it. It prays for Christ, the Good Shepherd and true Bread, to protect and sustain the faithful, leading them to see the good things in the land of the living and making them commensals and co-heirs with the saints in the heavenly city. The setting uses the original Latin for its devotional and theological message.
