EASTER SUNDAY SEQUENCE by Tsado Daniel — Lyrics
About EASTER SUNDAY SEQUENCE
The "Easter Sunday Sequence" is one of the most dramatic and ancient moments in the Easter morning liturgy. Sung just before the Gospel Acclamation, it calls the congregation to offer their praises to the Paschal Victim. The text vividly paints the cosmic battle between life and death—"Death and life have contended in that combat stupendous"—before turning into a breathless, joyful dialogue with Mary Magdalene as she runs from the empty tomb to share the good news.
This particular transcription by Tsado Daniel provides a clean, unison melody line that carries both the English translation and the original Latin text ("Victimae paschali laudes"). For a choir, it offers the flexibility to chant this sequence in either language. The melody is straightforward but deeply triumphant, building up to that final, glorious declaration: "Christ indeed from death is risen... Amen. Alleluia." It is a piece that truly anchors the joy of Easter Sunday Mass.
