Duo ubera tua

Palestrina's Duo ubera tua is a rich, five-part motet for SSATB voices. The composer's characteristic luminous soundworld is perfectly suited to the sensuous imagery of the Song of Songs text, which here compares the beloved's charms to a variety of natural and architectural wonders. The opening lines, evoking twin fawns, a tower of ivory, and pools, are set with flowing lines and homophonic textures that highlight the Latin words. The interplay between the upper and lower voice groups creates a sense of dialogue and lush harmonic colour, making this an expressive setting of sacred, yet deeply human, poetry.
