About Dulcissime frater

H. Battre composed this sacred motet for three female voices (SAA). The Latin text is a powerful meditation on Christ's suffering, beginning with an address to the "sweetest brother" (Dulcissime frater) urging a contemplation of the many torments endured by Christ. The lyrics enumerate the scourging, the crown of thorns, the crucifixion, and the wounds inflicted, culminating in a lament of Christ's death and disgrace. The motet concludes with praise and glory to Christ. This work offers a poignant and devotional musical setting of a deeply moving Passion text, suitable for thoughtful liturgical or concert programming.
