Domine Deus by Remi Studer — Lyrics
About Domine Deus
Remi Studer’s setting of the Gloria from the Mass opens with a jubilant and affirmative statement of faith. The SATB choir immediately proclaims glory to God in the highest, with a texture that is at once full and clear. The music moves with a sense of awe and reverence, each phrase of the text carefully sculpted. The composer vividly portrays the adoration and praise as the choir sings laudamus te, benedicimus te, adoramus te, and glorificamus te. The setting continues with a powerful evocation of the divine majesty, before concluding with a solemn and prayerful plea for mercy. This is a compelling and effective setting of the central Mass text.
