About Dixit Dominus
The powerful words of Psalm 110 (109 in the Vulgate numbering), Dixit Dominus, speak of God's affirmation of his chosen king and the establishment of his eternal priesthood. Francesco Alessi sets this foundational text for SSATB choir in Latin. This sacred work, suitable for Vespers, offers a rich opportunity for choral expression, with the varied vocal lines conveying the text's authority and divine pronouncements. The setting allows for dramatic contrasts and moments of profound contemplation, drawing the listener into the text's theological significance.
