Dixit Dominus by Antonio Cifra — Lyrics
Psalmus David. Dixit Dominus Domino meo: sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimicos tuos
scabellum pedum tuorum.
Virgam virtutis tuae emittet Dominus ex Sion: dominare in medio
inimicorum tuorum.
Tecum principium in die virtutis tuae in splendoribus sanctorum:
ex utero, ante luciferum, genui te.

About Dixit Dominus
This setting of Psalm 109, Dixit Dominus, captures the grandeur of the text, which speaks of divine power and eternal priesthood. Cifra's work, written for double choir (SATB.SATB), creates a rich and layered soundscape, ideal for a substantial sacred occasion. The Latin lyrics describe God's pronouncements, the establishment of dominion, and the everlasting priestly office, evoking a sense of awe and majesty. The composer's skill in handling the two choirs allows for antiphonal effects and powerful homophonic passages, enhancing the dramatic and spiritual import of the psalm. This is a formidable yet rewarding work for an accomplished choir.
