About Dies sanctificatus
This sacred responsory by Palestrina sets a Latin text for Christmas. The words celebrate the coming of light to the world, announcing a holy day when God has come to earth. The choir is asked to adore the Lord, proclaiming "Alleluia" and rejoicing in this day which the Lord has made. Palestrina's SATB setting is typical of his mastery of polyphony, weaving the jubilant message into a texture of balanced vocal lines.
