About DAUKAKA (GLORIA)

"Daukaka (Gloria)" is a vibrant Hausa setting of the Gloria, composed by Romanus Dominic Pius. Written for the Voice of Salewm Hausa Choir in the Maiduguri Diocese, this piece brings the ancient hymn of praise to life with the rhythmic energy and devotion characteristic of Northern Nigerian Catholic worship.

During the Mass, the Gloria is our great song of joy, sung right after the Penitential Rite to echo the song of the angels. This arrangement sets the familiar text—"Daukaka ga Allah a cikin sama" (Glory to God in the highest)—to a bright, driving melody that invites the whole congregation to lift their voices. The verses flow naturally through the traditional praises, moving from adoration of the Father to a heartfelt plea for mercy to the Son.

For a choir, mastering this piece means leaning into its steady, joyful pulse. The solfa notation is laid out clearly, with a strong unison chorus that anchors the four distinct verses. It is an excellent choice for festive Sunday Masses, feast days, and any celebration where the liturgy calls for an uplifting, culturally resonant expression of thanksgiving.
