About CREDO (ENGLISH)

When we sing the Creed at Mass, we are making a shared declaration of our faith. This English setting by Law. Xavier takes the ancient text of the Nicene Creed and shapes it into an accessible, strophic hymn. Instead of a through-composed chant, the piece uses a recurring chorus—"I believe in God the Father... this is my Faith"—that anchors the congregation and gives everyone a confident, memorable refrain to sing together.

The verses walk through the mysteries of salvation history, from the creation of heaven and earth to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. To fit the rhythm of the melody, the later sections concerning the Holy Spirit and the Church are cleverly grouped. Verses three, four, and five each introduce a different article of faith before converging on the same joyful conclusion: the promise of the resurrection and life in the world to come.

It is a practical and uplifting choice for Sunday Mass, especially when you want the congregation to really engage with the Profession of Faith. The steady, marching rhythm of the solfa notation keeps the choir moving forward together, turning a long liturgical text into a heartfelt song of belief.
