Congratulamini mihi omnes

This motet by Jacob Handl is suitable for festivals or votive Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The text, sung in Latin, draws from the liturgy for the Feast of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The composer sets the exultant words of the antiphon, Congratulamini mihi omnes, with joy and brilliance. The soprano quartet (SSSA) allows for lush harmonies and soaring melodic lines, creating an atmosphere of celebration and devotion. The opening lines invite all who love the Lord to rejoice with the singer, who proclaims her divine motherhood. The subsequent imagery compares her to a fruitful vine, bearing sweet fragrance and the fruits of honor and honesty.
