About Confitebor tibi Domine
Alleluja. Laudate Dominum, omnes gentes; laudate eum, omnes populi. Quoniam confirmata est super nos misericordia ejus, et veritas Domini manet in aeternum. These opening words, drawn from Psalm 117 (116 in the Vulgate), proclaim God's eternal mercy and truth, inviting all nations to praise. Composer Konstantin Steingaden sets this jubilant text for SATB choir. This sacred setting of a Vesper Psalm is written in Latin, a language often used for the psalmody of Vespers, the evening prayer office in the Roman Catholic tradition. The music would serve well to magnify the scriptural message of unending divine faithfulness.
