About Come, Holy Ghost
Mark Liversidge's setting of Come, Holy Ghost is a powerful anthem for SATB choir. The work is sung in both Latin and English, and draws on the ancient Veni, Creator Spiritus text. This traditional Pentecost hymn is a prayer for divine inspiration and guidance, invoking the Holy Spirit as the creator, giver of gifts, living fountain, and divine fire. The composer captures the text's supplication for enlightenment, love, and strength, asking the Spirit to drive away evil and grant peace. The setting moves from a fervent plea for spiritual presence to a final, jubilant doxology glorifying the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
