Christ our Passover by Roger Petrich — Lyrics

Traditional words (KJV) Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast: not with the old leaven nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness: but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more: death hath no more dominion over him. For in that He died, He died unto sin once: but in that He liveth, He liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin: but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Christ is risen from the dead: and become the firstfruits of them that slept. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was,in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, Amen. Modern words Alleluia. Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us; therefore let us keep the feast, Not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil,

About Christ our Passover

Roger Petrich sets the traditional words of the Easter Antiphon Christ our Passover for SATB choir. The music opens with a resonant, declamatory style, quickly establishing the scriptural text. The setting moves through the biblical narrative of Christ's sacrifice and resurrection, emphasizing the call to live a new life, free from sin and malice. The composer's setting highlights the contrasting ideas of old and new, death and life, using the full range of the choir to express the theological weight of the passage. This is a powerful and affirmative anthem suitable for Easter services or other celebrations of the resurrection.
