CHIZARAM by JUDE NNAM — Lyrics
About CHIZARAM
"Chizaram" is a vibrant Igbo song of thanksgiving that translates to "God has answered me." It captures the overflowing joy of a believer who has called upon the Lord in difficult times—when the "waves of the world" were tossing them—and experienced His saving grace. The lyrics ask a simple but profound question: "What will I use to thank You, my God?"
Musically, the piece is a brilliant celebration that brings the sound of the village square right into the choir loft. The chorus is especially festive, calling for the ogene (a traditional metal gong) as the choir sings about going to the house of God with special gifts. Underneath the main melody, the lower voices imitate the rhythmic beats of traditional instruments with joyful chants of "biam biam" and "koro-rom," creating a rich, polyphonic texture that makes it impossible to stand still.
Choirs typically raise this anthem during the Offertory or special thanksgiving processions. It is a song that moves the entire congregation to dance forward with their gifts, celebrating the goodness of a God who hears our prayers and calms the storms.
