CHINEKE ODOGWU

"Chineke Odogwu" is a magnificent festival anthem composed by Jude Nnam, originally written in 1999 for the Catholic Chaplaincy choir at the University of Abuja. The title points to God as the Mighty Warrior, and the music carries that exact grand, triumphant energy. It is a sweeping piece of praise that calls the whole earth to sing a new song to the Lord, declaring His glory across all nations.

The arrangement is highly dynamic, moving from a gentle opening duet into a fast-paced, joyful chorus. As the piece unfolds, it weaves through soaring soprano solos and powerful full-choir responses. The lyrics are filled with reverent Igbo titles for God, calling Him Ebube Dike (Glorious Warrior), Okaka (The Greatest), and Ekwueme (He who promises and fulfills).

Choirs often bring this out for major feast days, cultural Sundays, or choral festivals where a robust, energetic sound is needed. Towards the end, the song seamlessly incorporates the Gloria Patri ("Otito diri Nna..."), grounding its exuberant praise in the classic prayer of the Church.
