BIANU, BIANU O EMMANUEL by Jerome Ezeuzo — Lyrics
About BIANU, BIANU O EMMANUEL
"Bianu, Bianu O Emmanuel" is a stirring Igbo adaptation of the classic Advent hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," arranged by Ezeuzo J.O. It captures the deep longing and anticipation of the Advent season, calling on the promised Saviour to come and deliver His people. The familiar plea for Emmanuel to ransom captive Israel is beautifully reimagined here, bringing the universal cry of the Church into the heart of Nigerian worship.
In the choir loft, this piece serves as a powerful Entrance hymn during the weeks leading up to Christmas. The verses invoke the different titles of Christ—Wisdom from on high, the Spring of water, the Lord of all—while the refrain breaks into a joyful, rhythmic call to rejoice ("Nụrịwa nụ o Isrel"). It is a song that moves the congregation from the solemn waiting of Advent into the bright hope of the Nativity, reminding everyone that the light of Emmanuel is about to scatter the darkness.
