Benedicite gentes by Valentin Rathgeber — Lyrics

In finem. Canticum psalmi resurrectionis. Jubilate Deo, omnis terra; psalmum dicite nomini ejus; date gloriam laudi ejus.

About Benedicite gentes

Valentin Rathgeber was a composer of sacred music in the German Baroque tradition. This Latin motet, Benedicite gentes, is set for SATB choir and draws on biblical texts, particularly from the Psalms. The music expresses exuberant praise to God, celebrating His awesome power and creative works. The text invites all nations to bless God, proclaiming His mighty deeds and magnificent strength. It speaks of God's dominion and His watchful care over peoples, contrasting this with those who would exalt themselves. The motet unfolds with a sense of joyous declaration, urging listeners to acknowledge and laud God's glorious name and actions.
