Benedicite gentes by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina — Lyrics

In finem. Canticum psalmi resurrectionis. Jubilate Deo, omnis terra; psalmum dicite nomini ejus; date gloriam laudi ejus.

About Benedicite gentes

Singing in Latin, this sacred work by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina opens with a jubilant call to praise God, inviting all the earth to sing His praises and witness His awesome power. The text speaks of God's dominion and His protection of His people, urging all nations to bless Him and make known the voice of His praise. It is a powerful reflection on divine might and mercy, fitting for an Offertory hymn. Composed for SATTB voices, Palestrina’s setting would have been intended for a context where congregational singing was less common, allowing for intricate polyphony and rich harmonic colour.
