Beati omnes by Johann Melchior Gletle — Lyrics

Canticum graduum. Beati omnes qui timent Dominum, qui ambulant in viis ejus. Labores manuum tuarum quia manducabis: beatus es, et bene tibi erit. Uxor tua sicut vitis abundans in lateribus domus tuae; filii tui sicut novellae olivarum in circuitu mensae tuae.

About Beati omnes

This celebratory motet for SSATB voices in Latin sets Psalm 127, the Song of Ascents, traditionally sung as a blessing. Gletle’s music begins with a sense of unfolding, an almost architectural build-up reflecting the text’s theme of domestic felicity and divine favour. The composer masterfully weaves the five parts together, creating rich textures that support the imagery of a fruitful marriage and a thriving family, a blessed household in Jerusalem. The music flows with a gentle, confident energy, culminating in a profound expression of peace and well-being. It is a superb example of sacred Baroque part-music, ideal for a significant liturgical moment or concert setting.
