Bata Dinwenu by Ukoh Benjamin — Lyrics
About Bata Dinwenu
"Bata Dinwenu" is a deeply personal Igbo prayer of invitation, calling on the Lord to enter and make His home in our hearts. The title translates to "Come in, Lord," and the opening lines set a tone of profound longing: *Bata Dinwenu n'obi m, maka mkpuruobi m n'acho gi* (Come Lord into my heart, for my soul seeks you). It is a song of surrender, asking Jesus to grant us the strength to remain steadfast in Him.
As the verses unfold, the choir addresses God through His many attributes—as the protector of believers, the restorer of broken hearts, and the light for those in darkness. The final stanza builds into a heartfelt act of total offering, where the singer declares that everything they have belongs to the Father, culminating in a plea for Jesus to come and dwell within.
Because of its intimate focus on receiving Christ and offering oneself to His will, this piece is especially moving when sung during Communion. It also serves wonderfully during moments of Adoration or spiritual reflection, giving the congregation a gentle, melodic way to invite the Lord's presence into their lives.
