About Ave verum corpus II
This setting of the familiar Latin text Ave verum corpus would suit a moment of quiet reflection during a service, perhaps at Benediction or as a contemplative prelude. The composer Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens sets the text for TTBB voices. The Latin phrase, which translates to 'Hail, true body', is a profound meditation on the Eucharist. Lemmens's music offers a devotional atmosphere, appropriate for sacred occasions. The composer, a Belgian organist and composer, worked primarily in the 19th century, and his sacred works are often characterised by their lyrical melodies and solid harmonic writing. This is a fine example of his devotional style.
