About Angelus ad pastores ait
Costanzo Festa's Angelus ad pastores ait is a sacred motet for SATB choir, sung in Latin. The text, drawn from the Gospel account of the Annunciation to the Shepherds, rejoices in the birth of the Saviour. It opens with the angel's joyful news, proclaiming that a great joy has been born to us, followed by the shepherds' resolve to go to Bethlehem. The narrative continues as they find Mary, Joseph, and the infant, whom they adore. The motet concludes with the profound declaration, 'The Word is made flesh,' celebrating the incarnation and the gift of life given to the people, born in a manger from the Virgin Mary. This is ideal music for the Christmas season.
