About Als sy zijn ghetoghen
André Vierendeels’ Als sy zijn ghetoghen is a setting for SAB choir of a Dutch text which draws parallels between the Israelites' Exodus from Egypt and the crossing of the Jordan. The lyrics speak of God’s power being established in the land, and of the sea and river parting, and mountains leaping as young sheep for joy at the Lord’s presence. This sacred hymn uses vivid imagery to explore themes of liberation and divine intervention, making it a powerful choice for choral programmers seeking a piece with strong narrative and spiritual content. The music aims to reflect the awe and exultation described in the text.
