About Agnus Dei
This Agnus Dei for two voices (AT) comes from the sacred choral tradition. Sung in Latin, the text is a prayer to the Lamb of God, imploring mercy and peace. These words, a central part of the Mass Ordinary, are set here in a way suitable for liturgical occasions or concert performance. The composer Antonio Caldara was a prolific writer of sacred and secular music, and this motet offers a concise yet moving setting of a profound theological text.
