"Afụfụ Mmụọ" (The Story of the Cross) is a deeply moving Igbo choral work that reflects on the agony of Christ. The piece takes the choir and congregation through a sorrowful narrative, contrasting the profound good Jesus did on earth with the bitter reward he received from humanity.

The song opens with a mournful soprano solo that sets the tone of spiritual anguish before the full choir joins in. A striking baritone solo then asks a series of piercing questions: Was it not this same Jesus who made the lame leap, the blind see, and raised the dead? The lyrics poignantly recall how quickly the crowds forgot their cries of "Hosanna" to demand his death on the cross, even as Pilate found no fault in him.

Choirs typically sing this during Good Friday veneration or as a meditation throughout the Lenten season. Its storytelling approach—moving from Christ's miracles to his trial and crucifixion—makes it a powerful piece for drawing the congregation into the solemn mystery of the Passion.
