ADOD ITORO by Ozioko, Chukwuebuka — Lyrics
About ADOD ITORO
"Adod Itoro" (Worthy of Praise) is a vibrant and rhythmic Offertory hymn composed by Chukwuebuka Ozioko, with its text translated into Ibibio by Uduak Gabriel Etokudo and Etimbuk Benson Akpantue. From the very first notes, the song issues a joyful call to action: "Yeneka, dakada" (Arise, brethren), inviting the congregation to step forward and bring their gifts to the altar.
The verses gently remind us of the source of all our blessings, asking what we have that was not first received from God. As the choir sings of wealth, wisdom, and life itself being divine gifts, the music builds a spirit of profound gratitude. The recurring chorus is a wholehearted pledge to give God all the thanks and praise He deserves, acknowledging that He alone is worthy.
In the choir loft, this piece shines during the presentation of gifts or special thanksgiving processions. The lively SATB arrangement, complete with a spirited Coda ("Ekom, itoro, ukpono"), drives home the joy of a cheerful giver. It is a wonderful choice for any festive Mass where the parish community gathers to celebrate God's endless generosity.
