Adod Itoro

"Adod Itoro" is a vibrant Ibibio offertory hymn composed by Chukwuebuka Ozioko. The title translates to "Worthy of Praise," and from the very first notes, it calls the congregation to action. The opening lines urge everyone to rise up ("Dakada") and bring their gifts to God, setting a joyful, rhythmic tone for the procession to the altar. It captures the lively spirit of a Nigerian Catholic thanksgiving, where bringing the gifts is a moment of communal celebration.

When we rehearse and sing this during Mass, the choir leads the people in a deep reflection on gratitude. The verses remind us that our wealth, wisdom, and very lives are all gifts received from above. As the piece builds into the coda, the lyrics pour out thanksgiving and honour, asking the Lord to accept our offerings because they flow from the abundance of a grateful heart.
