LAUDATE DOMINUM by Jacques Berthier — Lyrics
About LAUDATE DOMINUM
"Laudate Dominum" is a beloved chant originally composed by Jacques Berthier for the Taizé community, adapted here to serve as a Gospel Acclamation. The refrain uses a simple, repeating Latin text—calling all nations to praise the Lord—that creates a joyful and reverent atmosphere just before the priest or deacon proclaims the Gospel.
Following the Latin refrain, the verses transition into English, expanding on the call to worship with declarations of God's enduring love and mercy. Choirs often turn to this arrangement because the meditative, cyclical nature of the refrain is easy for the congregation to learn and sing from the pews. It allows the whole church to join in the "Alleluia" response, while a cantor or the choir loft takes up the English verses, building a unified moment of praise.
