YAK IKOM ABASI. by M. K. Amisah — Lyrics
About YAK IKOM ABASI.
"Yak Ikom Abasi" is a vibrant Efik/Ibibio choral anthem of praise and thanksgiving. The title translates to "Let us thank God," and the piece serves as a joyful call to worship, urging the congregation to lift their voices in gratitude because the Lord is truly worthy of praise. It is a staple in many Nigerian parishes, bringing an immediate sense of celebration to the liturgy.
The lyrics move from a grand declaration of God's majesty into a heartfelt, rhythmic petition. The choir asks the Father for life, love, wealth, and the ability to serve Him ("no nyin uwem... no nyin ima"). This prayerful section builds up to a lively invitation to praise God with everything we have—specifically calling for instruments, dance, and song ("ke nkukwak ye unek ye ikwo").
Written entirely in solfa notation, this through-composed anthem is an excellent choice for festive Masses and thanksgiving services. Its rhythmic vitality and earnest prayers make it a rousing recessional hymn that sends the congregation forth in high spirits, ready to carry that joy into the world.
