YAFEWA by Pastor A. A. Tukurah — Lyrics
About YAFEWA
"Yafewa" is a moving Hausa choral piece that speaks directly to the heart of Christian community: the call to forgive one another. The title means "Forgiveness," and the lyrics remind us that just as God in heaven has forgiven our sins, we must extend that same grace to each other. It is a message that fits naturally into penitential seasons like Lent, or any Sunday where the readings focus on reconciliation and brotherly love.
The composer, A. A. Tukurah, sets this profound text to an engaging, rhythmic arrangement. The verses offer a gentle but firm exhortation, warning that we cannot see the Lord if we hold grudges in our hearts ("Ba zamu ga ubangiji idan mun rike juna"), and praying for the Holy Spirit to guide us. In the chorus, the voice parts weave together in a plea to obey the Scriptures and forgive, knowing that "Allah zai ji dadi" (God will be pleased). It serves wonderfully as a reflection piece during the preparation of gifts or communion, giving the congregation time to meditate on the healing power of mercy.
