SILVER BELLS by Jay Livingston & Ray Evans, Joseph Akpe — Lyrics
About SILVER BELLS
"Silver Bells" is a beloved melody that instantly brings the festive season to life. While it paints a picture of bustling sidewalks and holiday shoppers, it has found a warm home in our choir lofts during the Christmas season, especially for carol nights and end-of-year concerts. The familiar imagery of "children laughing, people passing" captures the joy and anticipation that fills the air as we prepare to celebrate the Nativity.
This SATB arrangement by Joseph Akpe gives the familiar tune a wonderful choral treatment. The voices weave together playfully, with the sopranos soaring on the iconic "Silver bells!" call while the lower parts echo and support the harmony with their own rhythmic responses. It is a lighthearted, joyful piece that offers the congregation a moment of pure, nostalgic Christmas cheer, reminding us of the shared gladness of the season.
