About Wan Yongu Aondo

"Wan Yongu Aondo" (Lamb of God) and its accompanying "Tere Zungwese Mhoonum" (Lord, Have Mercy) form a moving collection of Mass parts set in the Tiv language. These pieces draw the congregation into the solemn moments of the liturgy, from the Penitential Rite at the beginning of Mass to the breaking of the bread before Communion.

Singing the Kyrie and Agnus Dei in the local tongue allows the choir and the faithful to connect deeply with the prayers of the Church. The repeated pleas for mercy—"Zungwe se mhoonum"—and the final prayer for peace—"Na se bem"—carry a profound sense of reverence. Through these varied arrangements, choirs can lead their parishes in a culturally resonant expression of faith during the Eucharistic celebration.
