About Uyi O'ghosa
"Uyi O'ghosa" is a vibrant Edo setting of the Gloria, the great hymn of praise sung during the Introductory Rites of the Mass. The words ring out as "Glory to God," capturing the joyful, exultant spirit of the angels' song at Bethlehem. For a choir, this piece offers a wonderful way to lift the congregation's hearts as they bless, adore, and give thanks to the Father.
The arrangement is laid out with five stacked verses that walk faithfully through the traditional liturgical text, from praising the Lord God and heavenly King to acknowledging Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son who takes away the sins of the world. The melody is rhythmic and bright, moving naturally with the cadence of the Edo language.
After the verses, the piece breaks into a spirited, driving chorus. The voices layer together in a continuous outpouring of praise—"R'uyi n'Osa, uyi nọ n'Osa" (Give glory to God)—building up to a resounding, joyful "Ise o, Ise o!" (Amen!). It is a deeply uplifting choice for feast days and Sunday worship, bringing a profound sense of local devotion to the universal prayer of the Church.
