TUA NNYIN MBOM (Have mercy on us)

"Tua Nnyin Mbom" is a deeply moving penitential hymn in Efik, calling on the Son of God for mercy. The title translates to "Have mercy on us," setting a tone of reverence and repentance that resonates instantly with the congregation. It opens with a beautiful act of adoration, praising Christ who redeemed the world through His holy cross, before leading into the central, pleading refrain.

What makes this piece especially powerful for choirs is how closely it weaves into the liturgy of Lent. The verses explicitly mention the receiving of ashes, the call to prayer and fasting, and the practice of almsgiving. It is a song that journeys with the faithful from the solemnity of Ash Wednesday through the entire Lenten season, asking God to guide us from darkness into light.
