About Suscipiat Dominus Sacrificium

"Suscipiat Dominus Sacrificium" is a reverent Latin setting of the people's response during the Preparation of the Gifts. When the priest invites the congregation to pray that their sacrifice may be acceptable to God, the faithful reply with these very words: "May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands." Rev. Fr. Okwy Tony Umeh has taken this profound dialogue of the Mass and given it a dedicated choral arrangement.

The piece opens with a stately refrain that carries the main petition, making it easy for the choir to anchor the moment. The verses then unfold the rest of the traditional prayer, offering praise to God's name and praying for the good of His holy Church. Fr. Umeh also includes a final verse setting the "Gloria Patri" (Glory be to the Father), bringing the response to a majestic close. It is an excellent, deeply liturgical choice for the Offertory, drawing everyone in the pews into the heart of the Eucharistic mystery.
