Lord God Almighty

"Lord God Almighty," set to the famous Nicaea tune, is the quintessential hymn of the Holy Trinity. It opens with the majestic threefold "Holy, holy, holy," drawing us straight into the heavenly worship described in the Book of Revelation. In our parishes, this is the grand processional we pull out for Trinity Sunday, or whenever the liturgy calls for a profound expression of God's majesty. The steady, marching chords give the congregation a firm foundation to sing out, filling the church with a deep sense of awe and reverence.

This particular arrangement features a soaring descant by Sam C. Ezugwu for the fourth verse, lifting the sopranos high above the congregation while the altos, tenors, and basses carry the familiar melody. Singing "God in three persons, Blessed Trinity" in full harmony is one of those moments in the choir loft where the sheer weight of the voices matches the mystery of the words.
