SEQUENCE (Penticost) by Chinam Augustine S. J. C Bomboy — Lyrics
About SEQUENCE (Penticost)
"Sequence (Pentecost)" is a choral setting of the traditional Veni Sancte Spiritus, the ancient poetic sequence sung on Pentecost Sunday. The text is a profound invocation to the Holy Spirit, asking for divine light, comfort in times of trial, and the healing of our wounds. It captures the deep yearning of the faithful for the "soul's most welcome guest" to come and renew the face of the earth.
In the liturgy, a choir sings this piece right before the Gospel Acclamation on Pentecost, setting a reverent and expectant mood for the reading of the Word. The arrangement moves steadily through the five verses, allowing the singers to reflect on the different gifts and actions of the Spirit—from warming the chill of our hearts to guiding steps that go astray.
The piece concludes with a joyful, harmonized "Amen, Halleluia" coda. This final section lifts the prayer from a quiet plea to a bright expression of faith, perfectly bridging the sequence into the joyous Alleluia that follows. It is a fitting and uplifting choice for any choir preparing for the feast of the Holy Spirit.
