Sanctus

When we reach the Eucharistic Prayer, the choir's role is to lift the entire congregation into the song of the angels. Okeke Charles gives us a grand, majestic setting of the "Sanctus" to do exactly that. Marked *Maestoso*, the piece opens with a bold, rhythmic declaration of God's holiness, building a strong foundation across all four parts before flowing into the "Pleni sunt caeli" with a sense of awe.

One of the most beautiful moments in this arrangement is the transition into the "Hosanna." Instead of the full choir rushing in, a Soprano Solo takes the lead, soaring above the quiet with a bright, joyful line. The rest of the choir then answers, echoing the "Hosanna" with full, rich harmonies.

Singing this in Latin connects our local choir lofts to the universal Church. The "Benedictus" section brings a gentle, reverent contrast before building back up to a final, triumphant "Hosanna in excelsis." It is a wonderful choice for feast days or solemn Masses where the liturgy calls for something truly uplifting and reverent.
