SANCTUS by MICHAEL MORDI (MARYMIKE) — Lyrics
About SANCTUS
When we reach the Eucharistic Prayer, the choir's role is to lift the entire congregation into the song of the angels. Michael Mordi’s "Sanctus" from the Mass of St. Michael does exactly that, bringing a bright, energetic pulse to the traditional Latin text. Marked *Vivace*, this setting moves with a joyful momentum that keeps the liturgy feeling alive and deeply celebratory.
The arrangement builds beautifully from the opening "Sanctus" into a rolling, rhythmic "Pleni sunt caeli." But the real highlight for the choir is the "Hosanna" section, where the voices layer and echo each other in a bright, cascading acclamation before resolving into a unified "in excelsis." It is a fantastic choice for feast days or Sunday Masses where you want the choir to bring a sense of vibrant, rhythmic praise to the altar.
Singing this piece requires a good sense of timing and crisp diction, especially in the "Benedictus" where the phrasing moves quickly. When the parts lock in together, it creates an uplifting moment that draws everyone in the pews right into the heart of the Mass.
