Sanctus and Agnus Dei by Linus E. Odey — Lyrics
About Sanctus and Agnus Dei
When we prepare for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the choir's role shifts to leading the congregation in some of the most ancient prayers of the Mass. This handwritten solfa arrangement brings together two of those essential moments: the Sanctus and the Agnus Dei. Arranged with a clear, traditional feel, it offers a straightforward and reverent setting for the choir to sing during these pivotal parts of the service.
The Sanctus opens with a bright, steady proclamation of "Holy, Holy, Holy," lifting our voices to join the unending hymn of heaven. It moves naturally into a joyful "Hossana in the highest" before welcoming the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Following the consecration, the mood shifts for the Agnus Dei. Here, the music becomes a gentle, repeated plea. We sing "Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world," asking first for mercy, and finally, for the deep and lasting peace that prepares everyone to receive Communion.
