P.O.F Ayịyọ (Plea) by Dr. Nwose J.J & Onwubuya Charles — Lyrics
About P.O.F Ayịyọ (Plea)
"P.O.F Ayịyọ (Plea)" is a heartfelt set of sung responses designed for the Prayer of the Faithful during the Mass. Arranged by Charles Onwubuya with a melody adapted by Dr. J.J. Nwose, the piece provides three distinct, prayerful movements that a choir and congregation can use to lift their intercessions to God.
The first section, "Ayịyọ," is a gentle Igbo plea asking God the Father to accept our prayers. The second, "Anyị Emefiewo," shifts to a penitential tone, acknowledging human weakness and begging for the Father's forgiveness. The final section, "Remember Me," switches to Nigerian Pidgin and English, offering an earnest, everyday cry for God's attention. Together, these short responses bring a deeply human and culturally resonant feel to the intercessory prayers of the liturgy, allowing the faithful to call on God in words that feel close to home.
